“If you want to be happy, do not dwell in the past, do not worry about the future, focus on living fully in the present.”
― Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart
2022 is coming to an end. If you are like most people, you have had your good days, your bad days, and situations that feel like mountains. Political unrest, COVID, and inflation has hit many families hard. Now, it is time for the holidays, and we all hope to celebrate with loved ones. No matter your personal situation, the end of 2022 is a great time to self-reflect, let go of the past, and sit in the present.
True happiness is a frame of mind. There is never a perfect time to be happy. Do not wait for the job promotion. Do not wait to buy the new house. Do not wait until it is warm again and the sun shines most days. Choose to be happy now.
People and situations who wronged you in the past can only continue to affect you if you allow it. Challenges are part of life. Nobody has a perfect life and if somebody tells you their life is perfect, it is a lie. When life is difficult, learn the lesson, drop the emotions, and move forward no matter what.
When you sit in mindfulness you appreciate the fact that you have awakened to another day of life. Whether you like your job or not, be grateful if you have on. Whether you live in a mansion or a studio apartment, be thankful you have a home. Whether you shop at a high-end grocery store or a food pantry, if you have food to eat, that is good enough. Let’s hope you have one person in this world that respects you and loves you. That one person is more than enough.
When you let go of the past and sit in mindfulness you lighten the burdens of life. Typically, the older you get, the easier it is to accumulate baggage. But the older you get, the more opportunities to celebrate accomplishments. The glass is half full. Let go. Be in peace.
