Forgiveness is for you. Drop the rocks of life that collect from the hurt and disappointment of others. Real forgiveness means you no longer have resentment or want revenge against the person who wronged you. It does not mean what they did was okay. It just means you release the pain, replace it with self-love, and move forward in life.
Forgiveness is not easy. The greatest betrayal often comes from someone we love and trust. But as we mature in life, we collect rocks. The rocks come from the hard lessons we wish we could have learned a different way. Eventually the rocks weigh use down in sadness, anxiety, anger, and more.
Forgive for yourself. Forgive to lighten the load. Forgive to make room for new experiences. We cannot avoid life’s disappointments, but we can choose how we respond. We can choose to continue our journey and light our path with love, forgiveness, and understanding.
So how do you forgive when it is not easy? Take it day by day. Here are some suggestions:
- Write a letter to the person who wronged you. Describe in the detail the incident and how it made you feel. End the letter with the life lesson and forgiveness.
- Try mirror work. For ten minutes each day, look in the mirror and repeat powerful mantras and affirmations of forgiveness, love, and healing. When you look in the mirror, you cannot hide from yourself. You let a voice of blessings fill you up and fortify you to keep moving forward in life.
- Meditation and mindfulness are powerful in releasing the past and not living in a future that has not come. During meditation you are in the here and now. The person who hurt you in the past. The person who hurt you is not there anymore. You clear your mind. You focus. You release. Enjoy a few minutes in peace—just being you without a difficult history.
